Martens Asphalt Projects

City of Chilliwack Annual Asphalt Rehab Program

Over the past 15 years the City of Chilliwack has tendered an annual paving program that has helped improve hundreds of miles of local roads. Martens Asphalt is proud to have successfully completed 13 of the 15 contracts publicly tendered and awarded.

Design Build Projects

Over the last decade, Martens has demonstrated their ability as leaders in this process. To date, Martens has been chosen as the lead proponent – contracted to design and construct over 18 projects, spanning between Hope and Langley. These projects have ranged in scope from complete road reconstruction to specific utility upgrades, from Municipal Intersection Improvements to private commercial site works & parking lots. Two such examples are as follows:

Young Road Reconstrunction (Chilliwack)

This was a complex, fast paced project that included the complete reconstruction and widening of Young Road, from Trethewey Avenue north to First Avenue. The scope of work included upgrades and/or relocation of sanitary, storm, water, hydro, telephone, cable, gas and the CN rail crossing. It included fully actuated pedestrian and vehicle signalization to the most up-to-date LED standard along with an extensive street tree component to enhance the entrance to the downtown.

This 1.8 million dollar project for the City of Chilliwack was completed in only 2 month, thanks to the design build process.

Walnut Gate Site Works & Parking Lot Construction (Langley)

This was a private design build project for a commercial complex that provided the initial site servicing along with the ultimate parking lot construction. One of the interesting features of this project was the construction of the Atlantis Storm Detention System required under the proposed finished parking lot.

General Roadbuilding Projects (E.P.S)
Ministry of Transportation – Old Hope Princeton Way Revitalization Project (Hope)

Martens Asphalt Ltd. was awarded this 2.8 million dollar project to upgrade 2.3 k.m.'s of the Old Hope Princeton Highway, between Hwy #1 (Water Avenue) and Forest Crescent.

This complete reconstruction and widening included reclaiming the existing highway, installing an extensive storm drainage system, water line upgrades, new concrete curb and sidewalk, the placement of 7000 tonnes of Superpave asphalt, new street lighting, signalization, signage and landscaping.

RCMP Driver Training Facility (Located on the former CFB Chilliwack Grounds)

Martens Asphalt Ltd. was awarded this publicly tendered project for P.W.G.S.C. and has since successfully completed this 1 million dollar "state of the art" driver training facility that allows the members to enhance their driving skills in a controlled and safe environment.

Works included, Site Clearing and Grubbing, Demolition and Removals of Outbuildings, Excavating, Trenching and Backfilling, Installation of new Watermain, Sprinkler Systems, Storm Drainage, new Electrical Lighting Systems, Geotextile and Base Gravels placement, the Construction of Crash Pits, Paving a 1.5 km track, Landscaping, Fencing and the Construction of an Above Ground Fuel Tank.

City of Chilliwack Annual Concrete Works Program

Martens Asphalt Ltd. has been successful at tendering and completing various concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk improvement projects. Although this program has provided some unique "Traffic Calming" devices, it ultimately helps improve safe pedestrian movement through-out the City.

The scope of works typically includes excavation, site preparation, installation of base gravels, storm drainage improvements, landscaping and the supply, installation and finishing of various concrete features.

In addition to these City Contracts, Martens Asphalt Ltd. has also completed hundreds of other private and public contracts, specific to concrete placing.

Industrial, Commercial & Residential

Martens Asphalt Ltd. continues to provide unequalled service and quality to the local business and residents. The work includes everything from warehouse sites to storefront parking lots and from whole subdivisions to specialty items like tennis courts and Stamped Asphalt driveways.
